Scaler, sometimes called Scaler: The Shapeshifting Chameleon, was released in 2004 on Xbox, Gamecube and PlayStaion2 by Take-Two Interactive and Global Star Software.

Summary[]

Scaler follows the story of a 12-year old boy named Bobby "Scaler" Jenkins who is a self proclaimed lizard freedom fighter. Bobby, one day, stumbles across his next door neighbors evil plot to take over the world by unleashing huge mutant lizards. His neighbor, Looger, takes Bobby captive and zaps his with a bizarre bolt of blue lightning, changing him into his lizard form, Scaler.

Looger aims to take over every dimension in the multiverse with his mutant lizard army, with only Bobby "Scaler" Jenkins standing in his way.

With his only escape route being a portal to a desolate unknown planet, Bobby jumps through arriving in his new form far away from home. But, it turns out he's not the only one from his world to be trapped here...

Gameplay[]

Scaler has 15 levels, 10 of which are full worlds to explore while 5 of which are boss fights.

A major attraction to the game is the ability to transform Scaler into one of five different species of the residents of the lizard world, each transformation gives him an advantage over the level. However, you can only transform into one of these species one at a time, with a set species for each level.

Reception[]

Scaler received mainly positive views, it was praised for high production rates, and gameplay but some reviewers criticized the game by saying it had an unexciting plot and simple design. Reviewers also criticized the difficulty towards the end game consisting of enemy spam and general trial-error sections.

Trivia[]

The main protagonist is voiced by Matthew Mercer! next time you go to a convention with him as a guest ask him about his role!
